Supper Clubs - Food, Fun, and Fellowship
Updated: Feb 28
"Therefore encourage one another and build up each other, as indeed you are doing."
1 Thessalonians 5:11
Who doesn't enjoy good food, great fun, and uplifting fellowship. The Congregational Life Ministry Team at Oak Ridge accomplishes all three of these things by having our Supper Clubs with which to participate. The goal of Supper Clubs is to simply grow closer as a community of God so that we may better serve those around us.
Ben Smith is the present coordinator, taking over after Ray Combs. He takes the folks that are interested in participating and groups them together. The way it works is groups of 8 to 12 people are placed together. Some clubs are couples, some are couples and singles, some are families with young children. Once a month they meet for fellowship to enhance and grow our church community.
Some clubs may meet for dinner at someone's home. Some may choose to go to a restaurant. One club did a picnic at a local park and made a low country boil. While another club learned French style cooking while preparing there own dinner at Reto's Kitchen. We even had a family Supper Club do dinner on a pontoon boat after playing in the water one afternoon.
As you can see, It does not have to be a "supper". It just needs to be a way to get together for fellowship. A chance to grow closer with those that you have been friends with for years. A chance to make new friends with an acquaintance or someone new at church. You always learn something new about someone and you always have fun. That is guaranteed! Leslie Blake stated after their last Supper Club dinner that "It was a night full of laughter". What could be better?
Oak Ridge Presbyterian Church is a mission oriented congregation. By growing closer through fellowship, the members are able to unify. With unity, we can better serve each other AND those around us in our community. If you would like to learn more or join a Supper Club, contact the church at email@example.com or call at 336-643-3452.
